A 30-year-old man from Germany stood before the Wels Regional Court on Tuesday. He is accused of driving at approximately 150 kilometres per hour towards a construction worker on the Wels motorway (A25). The prosecution alleges attempted murder.
The incident occurred at a construction site on the motorway. According to the indictment, the defendant disregarded a police cordon and drove at high speed towards a worker. The man was apparently able to reach safety at the last moment.
Following the incident on the A25, reports indicate a chase spanning around 160 kilometres ensued. Police eventually stopped and arrested the driver.
In court, the 30-year-old contested the charges against him. He stated that he did not feel guilty of attempted murder. The trial was adjourned and is set to resume on 8 September.
