In the Upper Austrian town of Wels, a young motorist caught the attention of a police patrol on the evening of 24 April 2026 because he was travelling at 102 kilometres per hour in the residential area. The officers began a pursuit and were able to stop the vehicle at a petrol station on Salzburger Straße.

A 20-year-old local resident was behind the wheel who had only recently obtained his driving licence. He admitted to the officers that his behaviour had been reckless. However, during a closer inspection, the police officers noticed signs that suggested the consumption of narcotics. The suspect was then subjected to a medical examination, which found that he was not fit to drive.

The authorities are now pressing charges against the young man. In addition to the considerable speeding offence, he faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs.
