Burglars mark flats with tape in Upper Austria

The Upper Austrian State Crime Office is warning of a new burglary method in which perpetrators mark flat doors with adhesive strips. The gang glues thin strips between the door and door frame. If these remain untouched for several days, the burglars know that the residents are probably away travelling.

In the recent past, flat burglaries have already been registered in several Upper Austrian municipalities. The towns affected are Linz, Traun, Wels and Steyr. Police believe that an organised group is behind the offences.

The investigators advise residents to be alert and to remove suspicious marks on doors immediately. Neighbours should also inform each other when they will be absent for a longer period in order to deceive the perpetrators.
