A 47-year-old former police officer was required to answer charges of misconduct before Linz regional court on Monday. The man had repeatedly obtained access to the personal data of a 39-year-old woman without having any official reason to do so.
The acquaintance between the officer and the woman came about in June 2025 at an event whilst the man was on duty. After exchanging telephone numbers, the police officer accessed the internal query application and carried out several unauthorised queries in the ZMR (central residence register).
In the courtroom, the defendant fully admitted the offences. Acting on the request of his defence counsel, the magistrate court decided to end the proceedings via diversion. The person affected paid a three-figure fine on the same day. The verdict is final and not subject to appeal.
