Former constitutional protection official Ott charged again – secrets passed on?
Another proceeding against the former senior official of the Federal Office for Constitutional Protection and Counter-Terrorism is underway. The Vienna prosecuting authority announced on Monday that it has filed a new motion with the Criminal Regional Court against Egisto Ott. At the same time, Martin Weiss, the former department head at the BVT, is accused of violating his duty of confidentiality.
Ott was already sentenced to four years' imprisonment in a previous trial at first instance. Now further allegations have emerged, relating to the unauthorised disclosure of documents classified as secret from the dissolved agency.
The incidents surrounding the BVT have occupied the judiciary since the controversial house search in 2018, which led to the dissolution of the agency. Since then, there have been a series of court proceedings relating to the events of that time.
