According to Kleine Zeitung, a 69-year-old Villach resident received a call from an unknown number on Sunday at around 3 p.m. The caller posed as a police officer and claimed there had been several break-ins in the man's residential area recently.

As a purported security measure, he urged the senior citizen to hand over his valuables to alleged police officers who were already on their way. The 69-year-old was not at home at the time, but drove back immediately.

In the meantime, his son, who was in the house, noticed three unknown persons on the property. When the father arrived, the three persons were about to make their escape.

The Carinthian man did not let them get away: he positioned his vehicle across the exit, blocking their way. He then alerted the police. Shortly afterwards, several patrols arrived and provisionally arrested two men aged 21 and 18 as well as a 23-year-old woman.

The suspects are from Vienna and Styria and, according to current investigative findings, are believed to have travelled to Carinthia specifically for the offence. The investigation is being handled by the criminal division of Villach city police headquarters and is still in its early stages.
