A heated dispute among three guests occupied emergency services in Spittal an der Drau during the night of 12 July. At around 23:00, two patrol cars were dispatched to a traditional festival after a physical altercation was reported. Officers separated the contenders, as local news portal MeinBezirk.at reported.
One of the three involved, a 28-year-old local man, responded to police intervention with massive aggression. He hit and kicked at the officers. Even after several warnings, he did not desist from his behaviour. The law enforcement officers were therefore forced to restrain him. During this, the man offered considerable resistance and sustained injuries of undetermined severity.
The mother of the arrested man, a 52-year-old woman who was also at the scene, intervened in the operation. She attempted to pull her son away from the officers' grip and sabotage the arrest.
Even in the ambulance on the way to Spittal Hospital, the 28-year-old did not calm down. He attacked the paramedic, who was however able to evade all kicks and blows. As no injuries could be established at the hospital, the suspect was transferred to the police holding centre in Villach. Following completion of investigations, the Klagenfurt State Prosecutor's Office will decide on further proceedings.
