On Wednesday, police in Vienna's Favoriten district arrested a 25-year-old Croatian man on a preliminary basis. The allegation: he is suspected of attacking his 30-year-old wife in their shared flat.
The incident occurred during a dispute. The woman sustained a laceration to her head, swelling to her face and abrasions to her arm. Emergency services took her to a hospital. During the altercation, the couple's minor child was in the flat. The victim fled to a neighbour and called for help.
The woman stated that the man had subjected her to violence over an extended period of several years. Investigators charged the suspect with repeated violent offences, coercion and assault. Additionally, the authorities issued a restraining order and contact prohibition, as well as a preliminary weapons ban against him. On instructions from the public prosecutor's office, he was subsequently released on bail pending charges.
