In the Brixental, a 50-year-old local resident became the victim of an online scam. Within a single week, she transferred over ten thousand euros to criminals. This is reported by Kronen Zeitung.
On 2 July, the victim came across an advertisement on a social media platform that promised flexible work from home. She then contacted the provider and exchanged brief messages via the network. A stranger subsequently sent her a web link with instructions to create a profile.
The bait was an allegedly lucrative business model: by rating posts, she was supposedly to earn more than she herself had to invest. In a fake group, she then received work assignments and payment instructions. Everything appeared legitimate, but it was deception.
Suddenly, the Tyrolese woman received a warning that her profile would be blocked – allegedly because of an error in a completed task. Instead of breaking off contact, she allowed herself to be put under pressure and sent a four-figure euro amount to an account abroad.
Only then did she turn to the authorities. But the damage had already increased further. After just seven days, the loss had risen to a five-figure sum, which is likely lost for good.
