In the Villach Land district, a 16-year-old car driver came to the attention of police after performing a turning manoeuvre without the appropriate light signal. During the subsequent chase, it emerged that the young man had no driving licence and was possibly travelling with stolen registration plates.

Officers had observed the vehicle as it unexpectedly turned into a side street. They pulled in behind the car. The teenager then accelerated sharply and attempted to escape from the officers. Even when the patrol activated sirens and flashing lights, the driver did not stop.

Due to the high speed, the 16-year-old eventually lost control of the vehicle. The car began to skid. During the check, it was established that the suspect holds Romanian citizenship and lives in the Villach area.

Investigators believe that the number plates fitted to the vehicle were not lawfully obtained. The teenager disputed this claim and alleged that he had purchased the car from an acquaintance. Authorities are now examining the matter further.
