Klagenfurt court imposes suspended prison sentence on climate activist
A Carinthian criminal court judge sentenced a 23-year-old climate activist on Thursday to a four-month suspended prison sentence for publicly inciting criminal offences. The ruling by Klagenfurt Regional Court is not yet final.
The young woman had distributed photographs of damage to the Vienna party headquarters of the ÖVP on social media and called on others to do the same. Investigators saw this as a criminal offence, as she had encouraged others to imitate the crime.
Previously, she had been sentenced in the federal capital to eight months on probation for wilful destruction of other people's property. The recent trial in Klagenfurt was brief, but was accompanied by intensive dialogue between the defendant and the presiding judge Christian Liebhauser-Karl.
