A man from Oberwart district in Burgenland is alleged to have offered goods for sale via a digital trading portal that he never dispatched. The prosecution authority in Wels is conducting criminal proceedings against the 37-year-old on suspicion of fraud.
Between 9 and 11 March, the accused is alleged to have advertised a mobile telephone and a household appliance online for purchase. Ten interested parties completed purchases and transferred the purchase price via digital bank transfer. Among them were three people from Upper Austria, specifically from Linz, Steyr and Vöcklabruck districts.
After receiving the payments, the suspect is alleged to have claimed he would dispatch the items. Instead, he broke off communication with the victims. According to investigators, the financial damage is in the mid-four-figure range.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect through extensive research. The charges were filed by the Wels public prosecutor's office, with the man remaining at large.
