A murder trial is beginning in Vienna against a man accused of killing and robbing an 87-year-old woman in a care home in Döbling.

A man must answer in the capital from Thursday for the intentional death of a woman in her late eighties. The violent crime is alleged to have taken place on 19 January 2026 in a care home in Vienna's 19th district.
According to the prosecution, the defendant broke into the woman's flat, threw her onto her bed and strangled her. He is also said to have attempted to suffocate her with a pillow. He then allegedly broke into the safe in the room and took valuables along with at least 500 euros in cash.
