Vienna police catch alleged serial thieves after lengthy surveillance
Investigation success in Vienna: As reported today.at with reference to the press office of the Vienna State Police Directorate, two suspected serial thieves were arrested on Thursday evening at approximately 18:45 in Vienna's Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. The suspects are a 37-year-old Russian man and a 25-year-old Austrian woman.
The 37-year-old had previously stolen a jacket from a clothing store and then taken two e-scooters. The 25-year-old accomplice allegedly acted as a lookout.
The man was apparently unaware that criminal police had been on his trail for some time. An investigation against him was underway on suspicion of commercial theft; officers had been observing him and eventually made their move.
During subsequent house searches, investigators seized a total of three allegedly stolen e-scooters, three bicycles, an e-moped and burglary tools. Police already linked one of the e-scooters to a burglary theft from 2 October in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. The origin of the remaining items is still being investigated. Both suspects confessed during their questioning.
