A taxi driver in the Styrian city of Leoben was the victim of a severe assault. The man had previously ejected passengers from his vehicle after they had shouted Nazi slogans such as "Heil Hitler". Shortly afterwards, the physical attack is said to have taken place.
Investigating authorities are now faced with explosive findings. According to the APA, the accused are said to include high-ranking activists of the far-right Identitarian Movement Austria (IBÖ). These statements were confirmed by the state prosecutor's office. Prior to the official announcement, the STANDARD had received corresponding information. According to this, a former employee of the FPÖ parliamentary club is also said to have been involved in the altercation.
The incident occurred roughly fourteen days ago in the vicinity of a fraternities gathering and attracted nationwide attention. The IBÖ has repeatedly come to notice in the past through violent actions.
