Suspect apprehended in Meidling following Vienna courtyard death
According to 5min.at, investigators from the Vienna State Criminal Police Office have identified a 25-year-old as the immediate suspect in the case of a violent death in Vienna's Fünfhaus district following weeks of work. The arrest took place on Friday at approximately 16.45 on Ratschkygasse in Vienna-Meidling.
The case began during the night of 11 August: at around 0.10 witnesses discovered a seriously injured man in a courtyard in the 15th district. Resuscitation measures and emergency medical treatment by the professional rescue service were unsuccessful – the man died on the scene.
Early in the investigation, it became apparent that a confrontation between several persons had previously taken place in the area around Gaudenzdorfer Gürtel. Police now cite disputes within the drug scene as a possible background, during which several mutual assaults are said to have occurred.
After an arrest warrant and a European arrest warrant had been issued, officers apprehended the 25-year-old, who according to police has no fixed abode in Austria. During his subsequent interrogation, he confessed only to participating in the act; there is no confession to the alleged homicide.
The man was remanded in custody. Investigations by the crimes against the person unit are ongoing.
