An attentive witness alerted Vienna police on Tuesday after observing a burglary. The man saw an unknown person breaking open the lock of an apartment door with a hammer.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to find the suspect still on the premises. The 24-year-old man from Syria was holding a battery for an electric moped in his hands at that time.
During questioning, the arrested man admitted to committing the act. However, he claimed that the battery belonged to him and he was merely retrieving it. He could not provide investigators with any proof of this account.
Police took the young man into provisional custody and filed charges against him for burglary and theft.
