According to meinbezirk.at, a 32-year-old Moldovan citizen was arrested on 25 September 2026 in Bad Goisern and subsequently remanded to Wels prison. The arrest was triggered by a report from a hotel operator whose guest had failed to pay outstanding bills.
The suspect is believed to have evaded payment at least 15 times since the end of August in Austria. His method was consistently the same: he travelled by bicycle from one accommodation to the next, stayed overnight, consumed food and beverages – and then left without paying.
In addition to bill fraud, the 32-year-old is suspected by police of a series of opportunistic thefts that he is said to have committed during his journey. Furthermore, it emerged that he is connected to at least six similar offences in Germany.
