Vienna – Authorities in the Austrian capital were able to clear up two burglary thefts within a short time. The incidents occurred in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and in the 10th district.
At around 23:00, a resident of Schwendergasse alerted the police after hearing unusual noises coming from the basement of his residential building. The officers who arrived found a 32-year-old with Croatian citizenship, who had apparently gained access to the basement through a smashed window pane. Investigators discovered allegedly stolen tools on him, including a drill. The rightful owner had his items returned. Charges were filed against the Croatian; he was initially allowed to go on his way.
Just before midnight, patrol officers in Favoriten noticed a demolised glass door of a CBD shop. A man was climbing out of the store but fled as soon as he noticed the uniformed officers. After a brief chase, police officers managed to stop the fugitive. The arrested man is 37 years old and comes from Libya. He was allegedly carrying cash from the till and a computer. These items were seized. The North African remained in custody. Vienna's criminal investigation department (LKA Wien) took over further investigations.
