The Antwerp labour prosecutor's office has opened a judicial investigation into chef Seppe Nobels. Various former and current employees are accusing the well-known chef of misusing non-profit organisation funds and exploiting workers.
The case came to light following an investigation by De Morgen. The investigation claims that Nobels used money from a non-profit organisation for private expenses. According to the report, in 2025 he received treatment at a rehabilitation clinic in Thailand at the expense of the non-profit organisation. Additionally, participants in a refugee support project allegedly worked as underpaid workers.
The labour prosecutor's office confirmed the procedure. "We are investigating possible breaches of labour law against Nobels and the companies linked to him," says spokesperson Danaïs Fol. "The inspection services are conducting the investigation, together with police. The presumption of innocence applies to everyone until proven otherwise."
Nobels denies any form of fraud. He calls it a private matter. He declined to comment on possible addiction, but stated that addiction is a disease. "I support everyone dealing with this. I am sorry that this has come to light in this way."
