Armed attack on Anderlecht police station: Belgian minister "deeply shocked"
Two armed individuals with an automatic weapon opened fire on a police station in Anderlecht, Brussels. No injuries, but at least ten bullets struck the building's façade.

Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin declared himself "deeply shocked" on Saturday by the armed attack on the police station in Anderlecht, one of the 19 municipalities in the Brussels-Capital Region, which occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday, reports Google News RO — Crime (ro) citing Agerpres.
"I am deeply shocked by the attack on the police station in Anderlecht", Quintin declared, condemning what he called an "unacceptable attack". According to the minister, two hooded individuals opened fire on the building with an automatic weapon.
"Faced with such acts of intimidation, we will never abandon our determination to fight firmly against organised crime and drug trafficking, quite the opposite!", he added.
Police confirmed that at least ten shots struck the façade of the police station. Images published by Belgian media show visible bullet marks on the building, but no person was injured. Surveillance camera footage broadcast by Belgian television clearly shows one of the attackers firing the weapon, after which he flees together with an accomplice on a scooter.
Local police chief Jürgen De Landsheer, cited by Flemish television station VRT, deemed it "probable" that the attack represented reprisal for police actions against drug trafficking in this popular and disadvantaged area of the Belgian capital.
Anderlecht has been the scene of similar violence: in February 2025, two people died in drug-trafficking related score-settling. Across Brussels as a whole, federal police recorded in 2024 nine deaths and 48 injured persons in 92 firearm incidents associated with drug trafficking.
