Café owner in Merksem arrested for social contribution fraud
Antwerp police carried out inspections in Merksem in cooperation with officials from the RSZ. Irregularities were discovered at various hospitality and commercial establishments.
A garage owner failed to comply with environmental regulations. In a pizzeria, someone was working without a valid Dimona registration. A fast-food restaurant did not have a proper agreement for part-time staff.
The most serious case involved a café owner. This woman had been operating as self-employed for quite some time without the mandatory affiliation to a social security fund. RSZ inspectors concluded that this was done intentionally. A report for fraud was subsequently drawn up, as confirmed by spokeswoman Kim Bastiaens.
In another pizzeria, near Kroonplein, seven employees were checked. Everything was in order there.
