Sandrina, 45, appeared before the Charleroi criminal court on Tuesday. Detained and heavily dependent on drugs and alcohol, she contested a default conviction that had sent her to prison.
The defendant admitted to three counts of shoplifting committed within two days at the same Colruyt supermarket. Her objective: to steal alcohol and tobacco to resell them and obtain food and drink. She also admitted her involvement in three violent altercations with her partner in late 2023. However, she invokes self-defence, arguing that she retaliated against her companion's assaults. A fourth incident of violence, targeting the person who was housing her, is disputed.
Another matter dates back to 12 July 2024, in Châtelet. Sandrina is accused of stealing a money box containing a chip shop owner's tips, with violence. She denies the theft while admitting to losing her temper. According to her account, the shopkeeper had refused to serve her. She then allegedly threw the tips container. The owner subsequently armed himself with a scraper, triggering a fight during which she allegedly scratched him. She claims she apologised the next day, citing her intoxicated state.
The deputy prosecutor, Balant, tends to believe her on this latter point. He nevertheless requested confirmation of the sentence for the other offences, without opposing a probationary suspended sentence. The defence lawyers pleaded for a simple or probationary suspended sentence.
