Daniel, 22, has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment with probationary suspension of five years for the rape of a 14-year-old teenager in Charleroi. He claimed to be unaware of the legal age of consent.

A 22-year-old man was tried for sexually abusing a fourteen-year-old girl in Charleroi. The offence dates to 4 November 2024, the date on which the victim's grandfather filed a complaint.
That evening, the girl met the defendant on the stairs of a Charleroi square. His partner at the time discovered Daniel's actions by checking his Snapchat account. She found that her partner was flirting with the minor and boasting about having had sexual relations with her. It was she who alerted the teenager's grandparents.
During his interrogation, Daniel described the relationship as "consensual", claiming that the girl "was keen" and "had been chasing after him for a month". Before the magistrates, he repeated this version, adding that he did not know there was a legal age of consent. The Belgian Penal Code nonetheless clearly sets this limit at sixteen years.
The court also found the defendant guilty of two episodes of violence against his partner, which occurred in August and October 2024. He ultimately received a sentence of four years' imprisonment coupled with probationary suspension of five years, in accordance with the public prosecutor's request.
The defendant is the father of three children.
