During the Maitrank Festival in Arlon, a 35-year-old man, heavily under the influence of alcohol, threatened multiple terrace visitors with death. He was holding a long knife in his hand. DHnet reports.
"I don't care, I'm going to kill you all!", the defendant shouted according to a witness. The latter was sitting with his group on a terrace when the man pointed the weapon in their direction.
According to the public prosecutor's office, represented by prosecutor Rosart, the man should not receive a simple suspension of sentence. He was released from prison only a few months ago. The public prosecutor is requesting ten months of effective prison time and a fine of one hundred euros for illegal possession of a weapon.
Advocate Mégan Weyders pleaded for a more lenient approach. Her client is homeless in Arlon after leaving Namur. He is currently sleeping in a tent in the forest and waiting for regularisation through the public centre for social welfare. "Do not punish human misery even further. Community service would be wiser", the defence counsel said.
The Arlon criminal court will deliver its ruling on 15 July.
