Recordings of Lenoci from prison: insults and threats towards his partner
Audio extracts obtained by rtl.be reveal Grégory Lenoci threatening and insulting his partner from Marche-en-Famenne prison. A psychologist identifies typical mechanisms of domestic violence in them.
Calls from prison: Lenoci screams "I'm going to smash you all"
Audio extracts obtained by rtl.be capture Grégory Lenoci during telephone conversations recorded in April from Marche-en-Famenne prison. He is speaking to his partner, named Aurore, as well as to a mutual friend of theirs.
In the first recording, the tone escalates from the first seconds. Lenoci asks Aurore where she is; when she replies that she is at home, he repeats her words in a mocking tone before launching into a barrage of insults. "You victim," "mentally disabled," "you've got no brain": for several minutes, the remarks are particularly humiliating. He ends by screaming: "I'm going to hit you all, I'm going to smash you all."
A psychologist identifies mechanisms of domestic violence
Rtl.be submitted this recording to Albine Quisenaire, clinical psychologist, traumatologist and victimologist specialising in supporting victims. According to her, the exchange displays several characteristics typical of domestic violence relationships. "We will find most of the mechanisms found in relationships of domestic violence, assaults, with remarks that are really extremely violent, extremely humiliating towards this woman," she analyses. She also notes Aurore's attitude throughout the conversation: "You can sense that this woman is terrified, doesn't even dare to respond anymore."
A second extract, equally threatening
A second recording obtained by the editorial team documents a similar exchange. This time, Lenoci attacks his partner over her friend. "Listen to me carefully, open your ears," he repeats several times, before saying: "If I find out she's sleeping at my place one more time, you'll see what's going to happen with you when I come across you."
He then mentions having missed his exercise yard time, then starts screaming and insulting his interlocutors again. When Aurore tries to speak, he shouts at her: "I'm talking to you. You're going to answer me!" She explains to him that she would have been late anyway because of a bus. "Answer!" he screams again. "But I've just answered you," she replies.
Putting it in perspective with the charges
For Albine Quisenaire, these recordings can be seen in parallel with the facts currently alleged against Grégory Lenoci. The specialist notes, however, that reactions to judicial consequences vary greatly from individual to individual. "Most people will restrain themselves by being aware of the risks of their actions," she explains. "And then, there are people who, in fact, don't care at all and will take justice into their own hands, will insult, will commit acts that are punishable by law."
Quisenaire clarifies that her analysis concerns exclusively the remarks heard in the recordings and does not constitute a psychological diagnosis of Grégory Lenoci.
The latter's new lawyer, contacted by rtl.be in the context of the second trial currently underway, did not respond to the editorial team's requests.
