A quarrel between four men on Ooststraat in Roeselare escalated on Sunday evening. One person sustained a stab wound, and three others were arrested.

At around half past eight on Sunday evening, a violent conflict erupted in the car-free section of Ooststraat in Roeselare. Four men became embroiled in a fight at the intersection with Vlamingstraat, during which sticks were also wielded.
The incident escalated completely when one participant was stabbed in the shoulder with a knife. A passerby watching from a terrace witnessed the incident and saw how the victim became severely wounded. His clothing was covered in blood. Thanks to increased surveillance in the city centre, officers arrived within minutes. Police chief Curd Neyrinck indicated that the units were able to quickly arrest three fleeing persons. One of them attempted to escape with a hire bike, whilst two others ran away.
The incidents are said to stem from an earlier dispute between two groups. Among those detained are several men from Eritrea. The victim was transported to hospital for medical care and will be questioned on Monday. The three detained adults will also be interrogated. The judicial investigation is ongoing.
Business owners in the neighbourhood are raising the alarm over persistent disturbances around Vlamingstraat and Ooststraat. Groups reportedly gather there, harass passersby, throw furniture, urinate in public, and leave rubbish behind. Several shopkeepers fear that the problems have shifted from Stationsplein to their street.
