On Wednesday, the Limburg Region Capital police zone (LRH) carried out an operation against disorder in Hasselt's city centre. A police dog from the federal police assisted with the check. At the station, officers caught someone in possession of cannabis.

Near the railway tunnels just below the station, a 23-year-old man attempted to evade inspection. Officers managed to stop him and established that he was carrying both drugs and a firearm. The young man was handcuffed on the spot and the weapon was secured.

In Kapermolenpark, also in Hasselt, police discovered four people during the same operation who were also carrying drugs. Action was taken against them as well.

The checks formed a large-scale approach to various locations in the city where disorder had been reported, including the station area, the surrounding tunnels and the park.
