A 20-year-old resident of Marche-en-Famenne has confessed to the murder of a woman in his hometown. The lifeless body was discovered in the night of Sunday 12 to Monday 13 July 2026 on avenue de la Toison d'Or.
The suspect, who also lives in the town, was charged on Monday morning. His solicitor, lawyer Benoît Closson, confirmed to our editorial office that his client is fully cooperating with the judicial investigation. During questioning that lasted until 18:00 at the federal judicial police in Neufchâteau, the young man made a full confession. He appeared before the investigating judge on Tuesday afternoon, who issued a detention order.
According to his solicitor, the suspect is in a deep psychological crisis. He displays considerable remorse for his actions. The Luxembourg prosecutor's office confirmed that the man has a clean criminal record.
A second woman was also injured in the incident. Her condition is now stable and her life is no longer in danger. The victim who lost his life was of foreign origin and was active in the prostitution sector.
The man in his twenties is said to have inflicted multiple blows on her with a machete. In order not to prejudice the investigation, the solicitor refused to provide further details about the motive, the exact weapon or the relationship between perpetrator and victim.
Judicial proceedings are ongoing. A psychiatric examination, a reconstruction of the facts and further investigative measures are planned.
