Liège man arrested with 34 canisters of nitrous oxide
Liège law enforcement arrested a young driver born in 2000 during a traffic stop carried out this Saturday. The operation resulted in a record seizure of laughing gas.
During the vehicle inspection, police discovered a dozen canisters of nitrous oxide inside the car. This discovery prompted investigators to deepen their investigation.
They went to the suspect's home where a search led to the discovery of twenty-two additional containers of the same product. In total, thirty-four canisters were confiscated.
The young man is not new to dealing with the law. His record already includes matters relating to illicit substances. On the prosecutor's decision, he was immediately placed in custody. The case was referred to an investigating judge who issued a request for an arrest warrant against him.
Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is often diverted from its medical use for its euphoric effects. Its recreational consumption is increasingly monitored by the authorities.
