Ten arrests following large-scale drugs raid in Limburg
Local police Limburg Regio Hoofdstad (LRH) arrested ten people following eighteen house searches, according to HLN Regio. During the operation, €300,000 in cash, luxury goods and 14 kilos of drugs were seized. Notably, the operation was carried out by local police, rather than federal judicial police as is typically the case.
Limburg ranks second worldwide as a producer of synthetic drugs, placing the province facing a serious enforcement challenge. Prosecutor Frank Bleyen is calling for thorough restructuring. "Limburg should have at most three police zones, so that you have much greater firepower to be able to catch those gangs," Bleyen stated.
The prosecutor also points to the complex dynamics within the criminal environment. "You almost have a kind of barter system," he says.
