A man has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment with suspension by the Namur correctional court for possession of images of sexual assaults on minors and illegal possession of a firearm.

A defendant was sentenced on Monday by Namur courts to a sentence of five years' imprisonment, entirely suspended. This sanction followed a case involving child sexual abuse material, illegal weapons and suspected abduction. The facts were reported by DHNET.
Over the period from 24 June 2022 to 10 March 2025, the individual allegedly stored at his home numerous visual files depicting touching and other sexual acts imposed on minors. Law enforcement also discovered during searches a regulated firearm which he was not authorised to possess, accompanied by five hundred 9 mm calibre projectiles.
The case contained an even more serious dimension: investigators suspected the accused of having prepared the abduction of his own son in spring 2025. Digital exchanges had been found in which he discussed the idea of taking the child to flee to a foreign country.
During proceedings, the public prosecutor had sought eleven years of imprisonment in total. The defence, represented by a lawyer, refuted the existence of a concrete abduction plan, emphasising the absence of tangible evidence demonstrating a genuine resolve to act.
The panel of judges sided with the defence on this specific point, considering that the attempted abduction was not sufficiently established to warrant conviction. The accused was therefore acquitted on this count. Nevertheless, the other charges were upheld against him.
The sentence imposed corresponds to the portion exceeding the time already spent in pre-trial detention. Furthermore, the court imposed mandatory medical and psychological monitoring and prohibited any contact with his child outside the terms defined by the competent authorities.
