A repeat offender serving a nine-year sentence handed down by the Brussels court of appeal for attempted murder is now appearing before the Liège courts for violence in the Carré district in 2022.

A man who uses various identities was presented to the magistrates of the Liège correctional tribunal in custody. He is contesting a conviction by default for violence committed during the night of 30 July 2022, in the Carré district.
Around 5 o'clock in the morning, on rue du Pot d'Or, he allegedly struck a passer-by with a glass container. Police officers who intervened at the scene are said to have caught the attacker on the point of inflicting another head wound on the victim.
Eyewitnesses corroborated the facts, and images captured by the city's CCTV system also made it possible to establish the chronology of events, according to La DH.
Before the judges, the man in question rejected all accusations. He claimed the container was plastic and denied any quarrel or violent gesture. "I don't know how he did it," he stated. "He came towards me to take my phone. It was dark in the Carré. I didn't see that he was bleeding. I have no problem with this man." He further argued that he had been subjected to an unjust decision.
However, the person in question presented bleeding wounds to the head.
This case is added to another criminal matter: on 16 November 2023, the same defendant was implicated in an attempted murder in the Brussels metropolitan area. At first instance, judges in the capital had imposed a sentence of seven years' imprisonment. On 27 November 2025, magistrates of the Brussels court of appeal increased this sentence to nine years of penal servitude. The defence had appealed against this initial judgment.
The defendant's counsel requested that the nine-year sentence be absorbed by any possible new sentence.
