A man from Charleroi has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment for touching his daughter aged between 8 and 12. His partner received eighteen months for failing to protect the children.

A father from the Charleroi region received a sentence of four years' imprisonment on Tuesday for sexual assaults committed on his own daughter. His partner was sentenced to eighteen months for failing to protect the children, according to DH Les Sports+.
The case was opened following revelations by a twelve-year-old girl who has been in foster care for four months. The girl reported touching offences committed by her father, which allegedly began when she was only eight years old.
During her hearing, the minor explained that her father showed her pornographic content and asked her for sexual favours. The acts took place in the bedroom or the family living room. The child was sent by her mother to wake her father in the morning, at which time he would expose his genitals and ask for kisses on the mouth. These acts stopped as soon as the man was imprisoned for other offences.
The accused, Djamel, is currently serving a sentence at Ittre prison. In January 2022, he had already been sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for multiple rapes of his stepdaughter. His partner Sabrina received the same sentence as a co-perpetrator.
In addition to the sexual assaults on his daughter, the accused was prosecuted for establishing a climate of violence in the family home. He regularly beat his four children and stepdaughter with a stick, a slipper or a rolled-up newspaper, mainly on the legs, when they obtained poor school results or when any of them dared to answer him back. One of the boys was particularly targeted.
Djamel contested all the facts, even going so far as to ask the judge to take account of the positive aspects of his fatherhood, mentioning trips to Paris with his children. His partner acknowledged that she had failed to protect the children.
