Four years' prison sought against footballer Midou Mouhli for violence in Liège
Liège prosecutors are seeking four years' imprisonment against Midou Mouhli, player for Olympic Charleroi, for attacks on a young woman at her place of work.
Prison sentence sought against Olympic Charleroi player
The prosecution requested on Friday, before the Liège correctional tribunal, a sentence of four years' imprisonment and a fine of 50 euros against Mohamed "Midou" Mouhli, 27 years old, footballer at Olympic Charleroi, according to DHnet. The defendant is being prosecuted for assault and battery against a 26-year-old woman from Liège. The civil party is claiming more than 30,000 euros in damages, not including medical costs.
The incident dates back to 7 November 2023. Mouhli, then a player for RFC Liège, went to the young woman's place of work at the Aldi store in Saint-Nicolas, in the Liège suburbs. He forced open the shutter of a storage area, struck the victim with punches and knocked her to the ground.
The incident occurred in the context of a relationship that the footballer described as a "one-night stand", conducted in parallel with another liaison. The victim, for her part, referred to several meetings and a more pronounced interest on Mouhli's part. Having not accepted the break-up, she had revealed their relationship on social media. It was after learning of this disclosure that the player presented himself at her store.
During a previous hearing, the prosecution had limited itself to requesting a community service sentence. The public prosecutor revised its position upwards at the new hearing, now seeking a custodial prison sentence.
The defence, represented by Mes Molders and Hubermont, is pleading for a suspended conditional sentence, autonomous probation or, failing that, a community service sentence.
The judgment will be pronounced on 2 October.
