Brawl near Fragnée Bridge: three men apprehended in Liège
On Tuesday 7 July, at around 21:30, an alert was raised at Quai du Halage, in the city of Liège. Near Fragnée Bridge, an intense physical dispute was taking place, forcing the authorities to deploy several units to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found approximately a dozen people present. Three of them, all male, were taken in for questioning. Their ages range between 20 and 39 years old. Each of them is living without regular status in Belgium.
The younger pair sustained injuries during the scuffle. Temporary work stoppages were issued to them: the first covers the period from 8 to 10 July, the second extends from 8 to 17 July.
During searches, investigators found a baseball bat inside the vehicle of one of those implicated. The oldest of the three claimed to have only been trying to ease the tension. His account having been corroborated, he was released.
According to the version given by the youngest, it was the man in his thirties who first attacked him with a piece of broken glass. He then seized the bat to defend himself. For his part, the 29-year-old man claims to have hazy memories and merely mentions a disagreement.
The Liège magistracy initiated criminal proceedings and requested the issue of a remand warrant targeting the two main protagonists, whose birth dates are 1997 and 2006. Investigations are continuing to shed full light on the circumstances of this brawl.
