Septuagenarian from Fléron arrested for possession of weapons arsenal at home
On Sunday around 5 p.m., police arrested Alain, a 71-year-old retired man living in Fléron. The discovery of a large cache of weapons at his home prompted his arrest.
Shortly before the intervention, his wife had contacted the police to report that her husband had been keeping numerous weapons without legal authorisation on the upper floor of their home.
Officers attended the scene. The homeowner opened his door for them and allowed them to enter. The officials then found that he did indeed possess a considerable number of weapons, including hunting rifles, crossbows and a large quantity of ammunition.
During his questioning, the man indicated that he was a keen collector and had inherited these items. However, he had taken no administrative steps to regularise them within the three-month period allowed to him.
The Liège public prosecutor's office was seized of the matter. The magistrate opted for an accelerated summons. The man will soon have to appear before the Liège correctional court to answer the charges against him. Source: DH Les Sports+
