In Seraing, a motorist hit a woman following a dispute, then fled before being intercepted after a second accident.
Seraing: Fleeing driver hits his passenger after altercation
On Monday around 4.30 p.m., a violent altercation escalated on the Esplanade de l'Avenir in Seraing. A motorist deliberately struck a woman with his car, then attempted to escape. He was caught shortly afterwards by security forces, according to La Dernière Heure.
The incident stemmed from a dispute between the driver and his passenger whilst the vehicle was parked. The woman exited the vehicle, apparently furious, and struck the bodywork several times. The driver then accelerated towards the pedestrian, throwing her to the ground.
After the impact, the fleeing driver sped away. His escape did not last long, however: he caused a traffic collision a short distance further on, which led to his arrest.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene of the first incident. The victim was evacuated with minor injuries; her state of health is not a cause for concern.
The suspect was taken into custody. He was under the influence of psychoactive substances and had still not been questioned by investigators at the start of the evening. The Liège public prosecutor's office has taken charge of the case.
