Charleroi's courts imposed a six-year prison sentence on Tuesday on a young defendant. The man was prosecuted for a knife attack committed in 2023 against another employee sharing the same workplace in the agricultural sector.
For some time, the two parties had not appreciated each other. The convicted man explained to the magistrates that his victim, who regularly intimidated him, had already mistreated and threatened him previously. During the incident, he allegedly refused to submit to further abuse, having armed himself with a blade to strike at random.
The prosecution had stressed the severity of the facts. The significant number of injuries inflicted violently suggested an intent to kill, an outcome that only the intervention of an outside person would have prevented. The public prosecutor's office had not pursued the premeditation charge.
The judges followed this analysis, also dismissing the hypothesis of premeditation.
