Armed suspect on the run in Gozée following family dispute, actively sought
A man born in 1996 has disappeared from his home in Gozée after seizing a weapon. Special units searched the house without success.
Extensive police operation in Gozée for missing suspect
A large security perimeter was established on Friday morning at Place des Combattants in Gozée, after a man born in 1996 allegedly seized a weapon belonging to his father, following a family dispute. DHnet reports that the father left the home to alert police, and that a neighbour subsequently spotted the suspect on the upper floor, armed with a long-barrelled weapon.
Special units of the federal police were deployed to the scene, accompanied by a helicopter. The Charleroi public prosecutor's office also attended, as did the local mayor Rachel Sobry.
In mid-afternoon, law enforcement entered the dwelling. "However, a thorough search of the building did not allow the individual to be located," the Charleroi public prosecutor's office stated in a press release.
It appears the suspect fled between the moment of the emergency call and the arrival of teams at the scene. The house, which was under surveillance for many hours, was therefore unoccupied. "Following an inventory of weapons held at the father's home, it appears that the individual did not take a weapon with him," the public prosecutor's office added, providing reassuring clarification as to the level of immediate danger.
The man is now being actively sought. The missing persons unit has been notified.
