Bpost ATM targeted in Dinant after night of drinking
DHnet reports that an attempted theft with breaking and entering was committed at a Bpost branch in Dinant on 24 November 2024. The two suspects had, according to case evidence, consumed large quantities of alcohol that evening.
This Thursday morning, one of the defendants was absent from the hearing at Dinant's correctional court. The second appeared, but indicated he retained no memory of the evening. "I was present, I know that. But I cannot say anything more," he told the court.
Surveillance cameras captured the scene: two people, one of them with a concealed face, attacking the ATM.
The court president recalled that under the old Penal Code, such offences carried a prison sentence of between one month and five years. Since the new Penal Code came into force on 1 September, imprisonment is no longer an option in this context.
The Namur prosecutor's office requested against the defendant present a work sentence ranging from 20 to 120 hours. For the second, a fine is being sought — potentially reaching 20,000 euros. Judgment is expected on 8 October.
