At the end of June, law enforcement from the Lesse-et-Lhomme and Houille-Semois zones organised a checkpoint operation in Wanlin, a locality situated in the territory of Houyet. A thirty-two-year-old man first attempted to evade the checkpoint before being apprehended by officers.

The officers quickly noticed that the suspect was driving whilst intoxicated. Furthermore, he did not possess any driving licence and was driving without insurance cover. He was taken into custody immediately.

During the search, investigators discovered several drug products: nearly three and a half grammes of cocaine, more than eight grammes of cannabis, and thirty-three ecstasy pills. These quantities led the prosecution services to hypothesise involvement in drug trafficking.

The Namur prosecutor announced on Tuesday that the suspect was brought before an investigating magistrate. This magistrate ordered his provisional incarceration. The investigation is continuing.
