A man was sentenced on Monday to three years' imprisonment by the Namur magistrates' court for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in a nightclub in April 2022. The judges ordered his immediate arrest.

On Monday, a correctional court of assizes in the Walloon capital handed down a sentence of three years' imprisonment to a defendant. He was found guilty of forcing a fourteen-year-old girl into sexual intercourse and causing injury to her physical integrity. The man, who was not present at the time of judgement, was subject to an immediate arrest warrant.
The case dates back to spring 2022. A minor girl had gone to a local nightclub, Infinity Hall, to attend a party. She had consumed alcohol and told investigators that she had no clear memory of everything that had happened.
The defendant, though absent from the courtroom, had admitted to police that there had been intimate contact. However, he denied that it was forced. According to him, the teenager had consented to the relationship and had told him she had reached the age of sixteen. This claim was refuted before the judges by the victim's representatives.
The public prosecutor's representative had sought a sentence of three years because of the severity of the acts committed, particularly given the youth of the complainant and the evidence presented during proceedings. The judges adopted this submission.
The judicial decision also provides for the payment of five thousand euros in damages to the young victim. The judges considered, however, that it had not been demonstrated that the facts occurred whilst the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
