Violent arrest in the Carré, Liège: eight officers mobilised, one injured
A 24-year-old man assaulted police officers in the Carré in Liège, knocking one of them to the ground. Eight officers had to intervene; one is on sick leave for eight days.
Eight officers mobilised following violent resistance in Liège's Carré
During the night of Friday to Saturday, 5 September 2026, a man born in 2002 violently resisted a police check in the Carré, Liège's entertainment district, according to DHnet.
The incident began as the suspect was walking through the streets with a glass in his hand. Patrol officers stopped him for a routine check. The exchange quickly escalated: the young man grabbed one of the officers by the foot to knock him to the ground, then threw punches in all directions.
Faced with his behaviour, no fewer than eight officers had to work together to manage to restrain him. One of them was placed on sick leave for a period of eight days.
During his interview, the suspect stated that he had consumed vodka throughout the night and retained no memory of the events. He was brought before the Liège public prosecutor's office the following morning.
