Law enforcement was called out several times on Tuesday 23 June in a neighbourhood of the municipality of Ans, in the province of Liège. Quarrels broke out between residents of the same neighbourhood, escalating into physical violence.
During a first confrontation, a dispute occurred between a woman and her two neighbours. In the midst of the altercation, an axe was reportedly displayed.
The tensions did not subside. During a second confrontation, this time involving the woman's husband, the two neighbours were violently assaulted. The suspect, aged 42, allegedly rammed the vehicle in which the victims were located and beat them. He accused them of racist behaviour.
The two assaulted persons were certified unfit for work for a period of 13 days. When questioned by investigators, the perpetrator claimed to have been provoked.
The case was sent for investigation, with a request for an arrest warrant against the suspect.
