The ruling in the massive cocaine trial Costa, in which 51 defendants are on trial, has been moved back by one month.

The verdict in the extensive drug trial Costa will now be delivered on 30 July. Originally, 1 July was scheduled, but the Tongeren court has decided that date is too soon. HBVL reports this.
Earlier this year, a three-week trial took place in the assize court of Tongeren against 51 suspects. They had to account for the smuggling of dozens of tonnes of cocaine. During the proceedings, numerous high-ranking figures from the Belgian and Dutch underworld appeared.
The public prosecutor's office demanded a total of 455 years in prison for all the defendants combined. The heaviest sentence, twenty years in prison, was sought against ringleader Geert Frisson from Borgloon. Investigators suspect the gang made profits in the billions from their trade.
The court now needs extra time to prepare the verdict. The new date has been set for 30 July. Then Frisson and the other defendants will learn what sentences they are actually handed down.
