According to El Deber, a total of 346 packages of controlled substances—allegedly marijuana—were seized on Wednesday, 7 October during a routine check in the municipality of La Guardia, Santa Cruz.

Officers from Diprove were operating on the La Angostura-Samaipata stretch on the road to the valleys of Santa Cruz when they intercepted a vehicle in the La Gruta sector. Upon noticing the police presence, the vehicle's occupant fled on foot, leaving the motorised vehicle with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.

The agents secured the vehicle and found burlap bags and cardboard boxes containing packages of different sizes inside. The seizure took place around 14:00 hours and the merchandise was taken to Diprove facilities in La Guardia.

The departmental commander of the Santa Cruz police, Colonel Edson Fernández, went to the scene along with prosecutors and agents from the Special Force Against Drug Trafficking (Felcn). "Upon observing the burlap bags and cardboard boxes that were packaged, this drew considerable attention and apparently, at first glance, appeared to be controlled substance. For this reason we contacted Felcn personnel," Fernández explained.

After counting, a total of 346 packages of different sizes were determined. Officers are conducting field tests to confirm with accuracy the type of substance seized, although initial indications point to marijuana.

Both the drug and the vehicle remained in police custody and were referred to Diprove in La Guardia, pending the corresponding judicial proceedings. The driver who escaped had not been apprehended at the time of the report.
