Bolivian teenager, victim of sexual violence, returns to Santa Cruz from Chile
A minor from Bolivia who was under protection in Chile returned to Viru Viru airport following repatriation procedures by the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents.
Minor repatriated from Chile arrives in Santa Cruz under protection measures
Early on Saturday, a Bolivian teenager landed at the international airport Viru Viru in Santa Cruz after having been under protective measures in Chile. According to El Deber, the repatriation was managed by the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents of the Santa Cruz city.
The minor arrived accompanied by a staff member from the Chilean care centre where she had been residing. At the airport she was awaited by an aunt and a team from the Ombudsman for Children, which will assume the necessary follow-up to ensure her integration into a safe environment and the continuity of the protective measures.
The teenager had been taken in by Chilean child protection authorities after being a victim of sexual violence within her own family environment. The process was activated when the care home where the minor was located reported the case to the competent authorities.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, a formal request was submitted to the Santa Cruz Ombudsman to carry out the relevant investigations and verifications regarding the minor's extended family in Bolivian territory. The reports concluded that there were favourable conditions for her reintegration into the care of a close family member. Those results were transmitted through diplomatic channels, which enabled the Chilean authorities to authorise the adolescent's return to Bolivia.
