Consecutive operations in 'Los Cachis' aimed at recovering security in Santa Cruz
The Mayor of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 'Mamén' Saavedra, confirmed that operations in the sector known as 'Los Cachis', in the Los Pozos area, have been ongoing for six consecutive days and will continue, according to El Deber. The intervention, carried out with police support, seeks to halt the sale of stolen objects and dismantle illegal settlements occupying public spaces.
"This is a place where almost everything stolen from people in the city ends up. The gas cylinder taken from someone's house, the microwave, the wallet from the lady robbed on a motorcycle, the mobile phones, the vehicle accessories," Saavedra described. The Mayor characterised 'Los Cachis' as a "red zone" that has generated insecurity over a prolonged period.
The coordinated work between the municipality and the Police is aimed at addressing different types of crimes: from murders and robberies on public transport to street assaults and home robberies. Saavedra indicated that the objective is to create the necessary conditions for these criminal acts to cease, and that the actions are being developed in accordance with available resources linked to the IDH.
"We are taking actions to make it a secure zone again," affirmed the Mayor, underlining the municipality's commitment to recovering control of those spaces.
