Brazilian citizen arrested following fatal accident in the Grand Prix of the East

Elizeo Antunez, a Brazilian citizen accused of being involved in the accident that cost the life of motorcyclist Nicolás Pérez, known as "El Rayo Pérez", surrendered on Saturday to the Police in San Ignacio de Velasco.

According to El Deber, the foreigner presented himself voluntarily accompanied by his lawyer. The Border Commander of the San Ignacio Police, Luis Fernando Céspedes Pinaya, confirmed that Antunez "has been arrested since early afternoon" and is "under jurisdictional control of the Public Prosecutor's Office awaiting his hearing on precautionary measures".

On the previous Friday, Pérez died as a result of a serious accident that occurred during the third stage of the 48th edition of the Grand Prix of Eastern Integration (GPIO). The accident took place on the route between San Ignacio de Velasco and San Juan de Lomerío.

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had become stranded in the middle of the road, and that the motorcyclist, when attempting to avoid it, suffered the accident. That vehicle would belong to the now arrested Antunez.
